Introduction to OpenSAF Project

In this session, the OpenSAF project structures will be discussed, including the work of the OpenSAF Technical Leadership Council, processes for developing releases and new OpenSAF developments. Tools, websites and other vital components will be reviewed as well as the current release status and features of the upcoming Release 4.3.

This presentation will explore the various services of OpenSAF and how they link to the SA Forum specifications. The session will also discuss the key points and advantages of OpenSAF, and how it compares with other HA Middleware solutions.

Application Integration and Management
Mathivanan Naickan Palanivelu, Oracle
Understanding the specifications and architecture is a good start, but getting tried and tested approaches to integrating existing applications to the OpenSAF framework is even better. After your application is up and running, the monitoring and management of the service should become your top priority. In this session, you will also learn how the logging, alerts, and other management tools allow OpenSAF-based services to deliver on the promise of service level guarantees.

OpenSAF Demonstration in an Embedded Environment
Anders Widell, Ericsson
This demonstration will show how an AIS-aware service can be made highly available by the use of the OpenSAF framework and services. An embedded video streaming service can fail over in the millisecond range. This session also demonstrates a preview of tracing an AIS-integrated application using Linux Trace Toolkit Next Generation (LTTng). .

In this session, we'll discuss what you should think about when deploying OpenSAF, how to set up the redundant hardware and how to successfully manage the system over time.

The symposium will conclude with a discussion about long-term features and requests not currently in the OpenSAF release plan. This is an interactive session where participants can contribute with ideas and thoughts around the project and where OpenSAF should go in the future.
Speaker Bios
Jim Baker, HP/OpenSAF President
Jim Baker has worked with the leading Telecommunications Equipment Providers during his 25+ years at HP. He currently serves as the OpenSAF Foundation president and an engineering program manager in the Telco Platform Software group.
Hans Feldt, Ericsson
Hans Feldt has strong experience developing telecommunication systems at Ericsson for 15+ years. He started as a software developer and is currently a system manager for middleware solutions in Ericsson's core network organization. He currently serves as Technical Co-Chair of the OpenSAF Technical Leadership Council, but also as developer and maintainer of mainly AMF. Hans has previously presented at past OpenSAF events and is an evangelist for open source and Linux.
Jonas Arndt, HP
Jonas Arndt is a telecom architect at Hewlett Packard's Open Source Linux Organization. Jonas has a strong telecom background and has worked with carrier grade hardware, BSS and OSS products as well as high availability solutions for the last 14 years. In his current role, Jonas is working actively with OpenSAF and is also serving as a Technical Co-Chair of the OpenSAF Technical Leadership Council. In his various roles, Jonas has made many presentations including LinuxCon North America and Europe, 2011 and various OpenSAF conferences and events.
Mathivanan Naickan Palanivelu, Oracle
Mathivanan is a Principle Member of Technical Staff withOracle's NEP development organization.
He has strong experience in building HA systems based on the ATCA and SAF standards and was an active contributor to the SAF standard specifications representing Motorola and Emerson.
In the last 13 years he has also was worked in productdevelopment of BGP and L3VPN protocol stacks.
Mathivanan was a part of the team that launched the OpenSAF project and is currently serving as the Technical Co-Chair of the OpenSAF Technical Leadership Council. In the capacity of a middleware architect, he has delivered many presentations, workshops on OpenSAF and has provided design consulting on OpenSAF based system integration.
Anders Widell, Ericsson
Anders Widell is working as a software developer and system manager at Ericsson. He has 12 years of experience working with highly available real-time systems, in particular with Ericsson's successful AXE platform that has been used as a vital part in telecommunication networks since the 1970's. Anders joined the OpenSAF Technical Leadership Council in the beginning of 2012, and has been working full-time with the OpenSAF open source project since then.
